Position Summary

The Fiber Optic Field Survey Specialist plays a vital role in our field operations, primarily tasked with collecting data essential for the engineering and design of aerial, underground, and buried fiber optic networks.

This role necessitates frequent local travel and may involve overnight trips nationwide. While the position is predominantly field-based, it also includes necessary administrative responsibilities as directed by project leadership. Depending on the individual's experience and project requirements, there may be opportunities to advance into more complex data collection and engineering tasks.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of manholes, pedestals, and building entrance terminals, documenting findings accurately.
  • Perform visual inspections of poles, identifying existing violations and potential requirements for future attachments.
  • Survey proposed fiber routes, gathering field data required for pole attachment and buried installation applications.
  • Execute aerial and underground make-ready surveys, including outside plant route selection and verification.
  • Assist in the submission and follow-up of permits, supporting the team in both field survey and office tasks to prepare and manage jurisdictional and agency permits.
  • Identify necessary materials and tools to execute the scope of work effectively.
  • Conduct feasibility walks to assess the constructability of proposed routes according to quality and technical standards.
  • Prepare and maintain site status reports, databases, and project forecasts.
Qualifications

Candidates should possess a foundational understanding of telecommunications outside plant engineering and construction. Familiarity with telecommunications outside plant plans and drawings is essential, along with experience using typical survey equipment such as measuring sticks, laser range finders, and GPS technology.

Ideal candidates will demonstrate the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

Experience and Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Entry-level experience in telecommunications outside plant engineering is preferred.
  • Must have reliable transportation and be willing to travel to various sites.
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Capability to walk and/or stand for extended periods, up to 4 hours at a time.
  • Willingness to work in diverse indoor and outdoor environments.
Additional Skills

Experience with AutoCAD or similar drafting software is advantageous. The ability to create detailed reports and tracking tools for project management is also beneficial. Certifications such as OSHA 10 and/or OSHA 30, as well as CPR/First Aid, are not mandatory but are considered a plus.
