Position Overview

The Chief Biomedical Engineer oversees the operations of the Biomedical Engineering Department within the Veterans Health Administration. This role entails supervising a team of technical professionals, including engineers and biomedical engineering technicians, across various healthcare facilities.

Key Responsibilities

The Chief Biomedical Engineer plays a vital role in enhancing patient care through the application of engineering and management expertise in healthcare technology. The primary responsibilities include:
  • Establishing policies and guidelines for consistent methodologies and protocols across the organization.
  • Identifying and disseminating best practices throughout the system while facilitating communication with relevant stakeholders.
  • Developing and implementing policies for an effective equipment management program that meets regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborating with clinical programs to assess medical technology needs and establish maintenance and quality assurance protocols.
  • Advising senior leadership on medical technology regarding viability, compatibility, and safety considerations.
  • Coordinating reviews of high-cost medical equipment investments and ensuring strategic planning aligns with organizational goals.
  • Providing support to multidisciplinary teams in the deployment and utilization of specialized medical technologies.
  • Contributing to patient safety initiatives at the facility and system levels.
Work Schedule: Standard business hours, Monday through Friday.

Qualifications
