Position Overview

The Power Generation Engineer plays a vital role in the design, installation, and upkeep of critical electrical systems, ensuring efficient power production and the integration of renewable energy solutions. This position demands proficiency in configuring advanced control systems, performing routine inspections, diagnosing technical issues, and enhancing operational efficiency. Collaboration with plant staff is essential to uphold safety standards, analyze system performance, and contribute to the ongoing enhancement of power plant functions.

Key Responsibilities:

Electrical Systems Management

  • Design, implement, and maintain electrical systems, including generators, transformers, switchgear, and transmission lines, to guarantee reliable energy output.
  • Oversee the operation of electrical equipment to ensure optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Establish and enforce safety protocols to comply with electrical regulations and standards.
  • Diagnose and resolve electrical malfunctions, implementing solutions to reduce downtime and enhance productivity.
  • Improve energy efficiency through the optimization of electrical systems and the application of energy-saving initiatives.
  • Incorporate renewable energy technologies such as solar and wind into existing power infrastructure.
  • Configure and manage control systems, including Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, for effective plant operation.
  • Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to identify and mitigate potential electrical hazards.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and plant personnel to ensure seamless operation and maintenance of power facilities.
  • Analyze monitoring system data to track electrical metrics, identify trends, and implement improvements.
  • Design and maintain Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to enhance grid stability and provide backup energy.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and advancements in electrical engineering to continuously elevate plant performance and reliability.
Plant Operations Oversight
  • Monitor forced outages and generation losses, conducting root cause analyses and fulfilling reporting obligations.
  • Coordinate with external engineering firms and equipment manufacturers to address field modifications, resolve issues, and prepare necessary reports.
  • Evaluate overall plant performance, including combustion and steam turbines, and analyze efficiency trends to recommend operational improvements.
  • Optimize the performance of the T3000 Siemens digital control system, ensuring efficient operation of plant equipment.
  • Implement condition monitoring techniques such as vibration analysis and thermography to assess equipment health.
  • Manage instrumentation systems to ensure accurate data acquisition and maintenance.
  • Develop and maintain documentation and procedures to keep site drawings current.
  • Oversee the Management of Change (MOC) Program.
  • Investigate equipment failures, recommend recovery plans, and implement solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Administer the Configuration Control Program to maintain high-quality documentation.
  • Manage contracts and work scopes for external contractors to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Conduct reliability studies to maximize plant availability.
  • Review plant designs and suggest recommendations to lower operational costs.
  • Manage capital improvement projects within budgetary constraints.
  • Support and participate in safety and regulatory compliance initiatives.
NERC Compliance

Responsible for overseeing all plant Operator and Owner NERC responsibilities. Familiarity with NERC standards is essential to:
  • Interpret regulatory requirements and monitor for new regulations applicable to the plant.
  • Analyze technical data to document compliance with NERC Reliability Compliance standards.
  • Complete Reliability Standard Audit Worksheets (RSAWs) for the facility.
  • Train plant personnel on updated NERC procedures.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This role may require extended periods of standing, climbing stairs and ladders, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Personal protective equipment is mandatory in certain situations.

Compensation

The starting salary for this position ranges from $125,000 to $150,000, inclusive of an annual bonus.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Advanced skills in electrical systems design and maintenance.
  • Experience with control systems, including DCS and SCADA.
  • Strong troubleshooting abilities for electrical issues.
  • Expertise in condition monitoring techniques.
  • Thorough understanding of NERC standards and compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills for training and compliance representation.
  • Valid Driver's License required.
