Position Overview

The Entry-Level Power Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in supporting the maintenance and oversight of electrical systems within our plants. This position involves assisting in the monitoring of generators, transformers, and control systems to ensure optimal power production. The engineer will also engage in troubleshooting activities, update operational procedures, and contribute to the management of Battery Energy Storage Systems. Key Responsibilities:

Electrical Engineering Duties

  • Support the Operations & Maintenance Team in the upkeep of electrical systems, ensuring reliable power generation.
  • Monitor the performance of generators and electrical equipment to maintain efficiency.
  • Assist in diagnosing electrical issues and implementing solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Help develop and revise operational procedures and safety policies to comply with regulatory standards.
  • Contribute to the configuration and maintenance of control systems, including DCS and SCADA.
  • Analyze data from monitoring tools to identify trends and propose enhancements.
  • Support the integration of Battery Energy Storage Systems to improve grid stability.
  • Stay informed about advancements in electrical engineering to enhance plant operations.
Plant Engineering Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with external contractors and engineering firms to address field modifications and prepare reports.
  • Assist in condition monitoring techniques to evaluate equipment performance.
  • Help maintain updated documentation and work practices as part of the Management of Change Program.
  • Participate in root cause analysis for equipment failures and suggest recovery plans.
  • Support investigations into plant incidents and provide analytical reports.
  • Assist in managing outages by coordinating with contractors and ensuring budget compliance.
  • Engage in safety and regulatory compliance initiatives.
NERC Compliance Duties
  • Help maintain the GADS database and assist in the preparation of compliance reports.
  • Analyze technical data to demonstrate adherence to NERC standards.
  • Participate in compliance visits and represent stakeholder interests.
  • Support the maintenance of NERC procedures and participate in training sessions.
  • Assist with maintenance and testing activities for compliance with NERC requirements.
  • Monitor updates on NERC regulations relevant to plant operations.

Working Relationships

The Power Systems Engineer will report directly to the Plant Manager and collaborate with various managers to ensure smooth operations.

Physical Demands and Environment

This role may require extended periods of standing, climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds. Proper safety equipment must be utilized during certain tasks.

Work Schedule

This position typically follows a Monday to Friday schedule during standard daytime hours, with the possibility of extended hours and weekend work as needed.

Compensation

The starting salary for this position ranges from $100,000 to $120,000, inclusive of an annual bonus.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems, including generators and transformers.
  • Familiarity with control systems such as DCS and SCADA.
  • Developing troubleshooting skills for electrical issues.
  • Introductory knowledge of condition monitoring techniques.
  • Ability to assist in managing instrumentation for accurate data collection.
  • Awareness of NERC standards and a willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication skills for training and compliance representation.
  • Valid Driver's License is required.
