Job Summary

Under moderate supervision, the Medical Assistant - Primary Care performs a variety of front and back office duties in the clinic. This role provides initial preparation of patients prior to the physician's encounter, assists the physician in patient care activities, performs procedures under the supervision of the physician, and provides health education under the supervision of the physician.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assists the physician during physical exams and procedures.
  • Ensures that charts for outside physicians are prepared for the day with appropriate forms and documentation.
  • Assists staff with scheduling appointments, requesting medical information, test results, photocopying, filing, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Assists with obtaining authorizations or referrals needed.
  • Maintains patient charts and ensures information is filed/scanned accurately.
  • Functions as a collaborative team member, demonstrating a commitment to group goals and teamwork.
  • Takes vitals on all patients, including height, weight, blood pressure, and temperature.
  • Completes patient history, medication documentation, and other orders as instructed by the provider.
  • Performs point of care testing, phlebotomy, and specimen collection, assists the providers with basic routine tests, injections, and procedures (ECGs, Blood Glucose, etc.).
  • Maintains clinical equipment and notifies management of issues or concerns.
  • Operates equipment in a safe and competent manner.
  • Enters other pertinent patient data into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) as requested by the provider.
  • Accurately documents point of care results to ensure charges are sent by the close of business.
  • Works within scope and with providers to answer patient phone questions and complete refill encounters with appropriate documentation in the chart or EMR.
  • Answers phones, screens calls, and communicates messages accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Restocks and prepares exam rooms for the next day according to par levels. Notifies the staff member responsible for ordering supplies when necessary.
