Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Program Director, the Driver and Building Maintenance Manager oversees the functionality and upkeep of the organization's vehicles. This role also encompasses supporting maintenance requirements throughout the facility. The driver is tasked with safely transporting participants, staff, and volunteers along designated routes while ensuring their well-being during transit. Additionally, the driver is responsible for maintaining accurate logs, completing necessary paperwork, and scheduling routine inspections and maintenance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Operates the agency's approved vehicles.
  2. Adheres to all traffic regulations.
  3. Assists in loading and unloading participants using stairs or wheelchair ramps.
  4. Plans and executes necessary transportation routes.
  5. Maintains responsibility for all equipment and materials, including vehicle care.
  6. Reports maintenance needs to the Program Director, Operations Manager, or CEO.
  7. Enforces regulations consistently.
  8. Handles disciplinary situations with professionalism and fairness.
  9. Responds promptly and effectively to emergencies and accidents, following established procedures.
  10. Submits daily reports and logs to the administrative office.
  11. Performs maintenance tasks around the facility to ensure a safe environment, including cleaning and organizing.
  12. Participates in staff training and meetings.
  13. Fosters positive relationships with employees, participants, parents, vendors, and volunteers.
  14. Maintains confidentiality regarding participant and agency information.
  15. Demonstrates sound decision-making and effective communication with all stakeholders.
  16. Manages inventory and security of equipment and collaborates with staff for procurement as per budget approvals.
  17. Operates a cell phone in compliance with state and local laws.
  18. Ensures a clean and safe working environment, including exterior vehicle cleaning when necessary.
  19. Communicates any issues or changes in schedule to the Program Curriculum Coordinator.
  20. Reports participant behavioral or disciplinary issues to the Program Curriculum Coordinator.
  21. Embodies and supports the core values and mission of TRI-TOWN YMCA.
  22. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be at least 18 years old.
  2. Must possess and maintain a valid State of Illinois driver's license.
  3. Must have a clean driving record.
  4. Previous experience in bus driving is advantageous.
  5. Knowledge of safe driving practices and the Illinois Motor Vehicle Code is required.
  6. Must obtain First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications by the first day of employment.
  7. Must complete DCFS Mandated Reporter certification within the first week of employment.
  8. Must pass a criminal background check prior to employment.
  9. Must be able to read, write, and organize materials in English.
  10. Must be capable of supervising participants with a strong safety awareness.
  11. Ability to work independently and collaboratively with teams is essential.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

The Driver may spend extended periods inside a vehicle. The individual must be able to lift, turn, and carry up to 50 pounds over a distance of 10 feet and place this load on shelves at chest height. Work may be required in various weather conditions, including heat and rain. Vision must be 20/20 or corrected to 20/20. The individual must be able to talk, taste, smell, and see at various distances.
