Job Overview


Under the supervision of a lead technician, this role involves the inspection, testing, installation, maintenance, modification, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical circuits, appliances, systems, fixtures, and associated electrical controls and devices, ensuring compliance with all applicable state and local electrical codes.

Acts as a liaison with external electrical service providers, ensuring that all necessary permits are secured and that work is conducted in accordance with regulatory and institutional standards.

Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.


Key Responsibilities


Ensures that all electrical installations adhere to the Life Safety Code (NFPA 101) as mandated by regulatory bodies.

Oversees all electrical equipment, obtaining permits and executing electrical work as legally required, while serving as a point of contact for external licensed electrical contractors.


Conducts regular inspections and assessments of electrical equipment to guarantee efficient and safe operation, following a recommended maintenance schedule for cleaning and lubrication, and maintaining detailed records of equipment status and maintenance activities.


Evaluates and proposes cost-saving initiatives and facility enhancements, including but not limited to high-efficiency motors, electronic lighting solutions, and LED exit signage.


Responds swiftly to electrical service requests, inspecting and repairing various electrical systems and equipment, including lighting, power distribution, and fan motors.


Performs diagnostic tests to ensure circuit continuity and the safety and compatibility of all components, utilizing testing equipment to identify issues such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, and loose connections.


Employs appropriate tools and specialized equipment to measure, cut, bend, thread wire, and assemble and install electrical conduits, junction switches, outlet boxes, and switchboards.

Interprets blueprints and schematics to determine the methods, materials, personnel, and equipment necessary for modifications to the electrical system.


Work Schedule


Must be available for overtime and capable of working extended hours to address priority repairs and cover for absences due to emergencies, vacations, or illness.


Compliance and Safety


Adheres to ICRA/PCRA procedures as outlined by the Epidemiology department.


Qualifications


Required:

A high school diploma or equivalent, along with completion of a trade or vocational school program.

A minimum of 3–4 years of experience in an electrical apprenticeship program.

At least 5 years of experience as a journeyman.

In-depth knowledge of electrical distribution systems and devices, including controls, switches, starters, transformers, motors, and panel boards.

Valid Driver's License - STATE_MI (State of Michigan).


Preferred:

Basic welding skills.

Experience in a healthcare environment is advantageous.
