The Mental Health Aide operates under the guidance of a Registered Nurse and Physician to deliver care for individuals experiencing acute psychiatric crises in the Emergency Department. Key responsibilities encompass providing fundamental nursing assistance, ensuring a secure environment, fostering a therapeutic atmosphere, and collaborating with the nursing staff. This role is pivotal in advancing the mission and core values of Martin Luther King Jr Community Hospital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather patient information and care requirements from nursing staff
  • Assist patients with daily living tasks
  • Observe and report any changes in patients' health status
  • Guarantee patient comfort and safety
  • Effectively communicate with patients, their families, and team members
  • Accurately document data and alert the RN to any issues
  • Pursue opportunities for professional development
  • Adhere to hospital policies and standards

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of 6 months experience in an Emergency Department or inpatient environment
  • Current Nurse Assistant certification in California is mandatory
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required

Preferred Skills and Knowledge

  • Bilingual abilities (Spanish) are preferred
  • Basic computer proficiency
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Certification in Managing Aggressive Behavior is essential
  • Service-oriented approach
