Job Title: NYSA Youth Education Intern

Job Summary:

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to support the Youth Education team in preparing and facilitating the Newcomer Youth Summer Academy. This six-week program focuses on preparing newly arrived immigrant youth to succeed at their grade level in the New York City public school system.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support program rollout, including facilitating orientation and training
  • Assist in supervision of daily student meals and student arrival/dismissal
  • Ensure teachers provide weekly lesson plans and complete all paperwork required
  • Assist with facilitation of M&E (including assessments) throughout the program
  • Assist teachers and staff with classroom management
  • Complete all staff evaluation

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate student or graduate student working towards a degree in Education or related field
  • Experience in education programming or teaching preferred
  • Knowledge of classroom procedures; health and safety precautions a plus
  • Experience working with children and/or peers highly desired
  • Ability to work well with people of diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Flexible, innovative, accountable with a strong desire to learn

Working Environment:

The Academy takes place in a centrally located New York City public school. All participants must be willing to relocate to New York City for the entirety of the Program.
