Position Summary:
The Bilingual Education Support Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing the educational experience of English Language Learner (ELL) students. This position is responsible for providing individualized and small group support to students, as well as assisting teachers with clerical tasks to ensure a smooth instructional process.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Utilizes fluency in English and another language to support ELL students in mastering academic content and adapting to the educational environment.
  • Assists ELL students with their assignments, including reading, writing, and reinforcing language skills to help them achieve academic success.
  • Collaborates with educators to assess student progress and implement effective classroom strategies.
  • Encourages cooperative learning and cultural exchange between ELL students and their English-speaking peers.
  • Provides constructive feedback to teachers regarding the challenges and achievements of ELL students.
  • Monitors student behavior and engagement in various settings to maintain a positive learning atmosphere.
  • Performs clerical duties such as preparing instructional materials and maintaining organized records.
  • Reports significant observations related to student behavior and academic performance to appropriate personnel.
  • Completes additional tasks as assigned to support the educational mission.
  • May be required to work from an alternative location during unforeseen circumstances affecting school operations.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED required, with at least one of the following:
    • Completion of 48 college credit hours; passing scores on the OGET test or the Education Testing Service Parapro Assessment Test.
    • For special education roles, completion of additional training and certifications as specified.
  • Successful completion of the Bilingual Skills Test.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking multiple languages.
  • Familiarity with standard office equipment and software applications.
  • Ability to perform basic math and follow detailed instructions.
  • Knowledge of child development and appropriate educational practices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience supporting students whose primary language is not English.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity and visual acuity.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with students and staff.
  • Capability to perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving materials.
  • Flexibility to work outside of regular hours when necessary.
Work Environment:
  • Office duties will be conducted in a well-lit, climate-controlled setting.
