QUALIFICATIONS:
- A minimum of a two-year associate degree or higher, or an official transcript demonstrating successful completion of at least 48 college credit hours from an accredited educational institution, or a passing score on the Para-Pro Assessment or the Oklahoma General Aptitude Test (OGAT).
OBJECTIVE: To assist educators in delivering a suitable educational experience and related services for students with disabilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Stay informed about medical conditions that may impact a student's health, safety, or performance, and be prepared to respond appropriately if issues arise.
- Collaborate with students to teach essential self-help skills, including dressing, feeding, and personal hygiene.
- Maintain cleanliness by disinfecting toys, equipment, and other classroom items.
- Support students with daily classroom tasks; set up, operate, and store instructional materials and adaptive equipment, and assist in implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
- Supervise students during library, art, music, physical education, lunch periods, assemblies, recreational activities, and field trips.
- Manage classroom activities in the absence of the teacher.
- Oversee students before and after school, during transitions, and assist students with mobility needs, including those using wheelchairs or other assistive devices.
- Provide personal care services, which may include tube feeding, suctioning, tracheotomy care, catheterization, and assistance with toileting and hygiene.
- Assist with laundry and dish duties, including loading and running machines, folding, and putting away items.
- Facilitate meal distribution from the cafeteria, assist students with eating, and maintain cleanliness in dining areas.
- Document students' daily activities, maintain attendance records, and update classroom displays and decorations.
- Participate in staff meetings, assist in the creation and maintenance of adaptive devices, and contribute to planning for events and celebrations.
- BE READY TO ASSIST WHEREVER THERE IS A NEED.
EMPLOYMENT TERMS: Nine-month contract.
EVALUATION: Job performance will be assessed annually in accordance with the Board's policy on the evaluation of support personnel.
