POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee consumer interactions and implement behavior management strategies or other relevant programs. Ensure thorough documentation on designated forms.
- Record all shift activities and incidents in the log and on consumer profiles in the management system.
- Generate programmatic and statistical reports as needed.
- Ensure the safety, appearance, and cleanliness of the residence. Conduct sanitation and safety inspections of all internal and external areas of the facility. Perform minor repairs and notify supervisors of potential major issues.
- Maintain a professional demeanor with colleagues, management, and external agencies.
- Be aware of consumers' locations at all times and implement all organizational policies and procedures governing operations, including medication administration, key control, adherence to individual plans, evacuation, and emergency protocols, as well as compliance with licensing regulations and contracts.
- Promptly notify appropriate personnel regarding any issues or unusual occurrences. Complete incident reports related to consumers and/or worker compensation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Act as an advocate and positive role model for consumers, treating individuals with respect and dignity.
- Assist or facilitate necessary hygiene tasks for consumers.
- Document all activities related to the welfare of the residence or consumers on appropriate forms, including but not limited to:
- Consumer/Visitor movement to or from the residence.
- Unusual incidents involving consumers, staff, or others affecting the residence.
- Medical emergencies, including seizures, medication administration, and errors.
- Significant changes in consumer behavior, whether positive or negative.
- Administer medications according to each consumer's prescribed schedule and organizational guidelines.
- Organize and facilitate activities or programs for consumers during each shift, ensuring engagement and interaction based on their needs and preferences.
- Provide counseling or support to assigned consumers to address progress, challenges, and interests.
- Assist in supervising and safely transporting residents to community activities, day programs, and social events.
- Know and follow emergency procedures for various situations affecting residents.
- Support guardians and family members in understanding and implementing person-centered planning principles in relation to consumers.
- Report and respond to any violations of individual rights directly to management. Participate in investigations as directed.
- Assist with shopping, meal preparation, setup, and cleanup during shifts.
- Engage in training, seminars, or other professional development opportunities provided by the organization. Provide training for staff as required and actively participate in meetings and training sessions.
- Possess a thorough understanding of organizational policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Residential Manager or designated personnel.
- Adhere to behavior support plans and document as necessary.
GENERAL FUNCTION:
The Residential Support Specialist is responsible for the daily supervision of consumers and the operation of programs. Ensures accurate and timely tracking of consumer progress while implementing all organizational policies and procedures to ensure the safety and welfare of consumers and property. Strives to provide a fun, safe, and healthy environment for individuals.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum requirement of a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
- At least two years of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or dual diagnoses. Educational qualifications may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to be insured by the organization throughout employment. Travel may be required during daily work using organizational or personal vehicles.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are essential.
- Ability to obtain and maintain certifications in CPR, First Aid, and medication administration.
- Physical capability to lift up to 75 pounds and assist individuals as needed.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
The Residential Support Specialist is directly accountable to the Residential Manager or designated representative.
