Marine Electrical Systems Expert

THOR Solutions, LLC is seeking a highly skilled senior-level Marine Electrical Engineer to support the US Coast Guard's Ship Design Team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in specialized Marine Electrical fields, including electric propulsion, machinery control, power generation or distribution systems. Additionally, they must be familiar with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.
The selected individual will review electrical systems design drawings, interpret ship specifications, evaluate power and lighting systems, and electric or diesel-electric propulsion. They will also write electrical system specifications for concept, preliminary, and contract-level designs and ship modifications. Furthermore, they will develop system documentation and ship specifications, perform design and calculations, conduct performance studies, and develop reports.
This role requires a deep understanding of U.S. Navy Power Distribution Architecture, USN, USCG, ABS, and/or commercial ship design rules and regulations. Relevant certifications, such as Professional Engineer (PE) license, Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, DHS Systems Engineering certification, and DHS Program Management certification, are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Review electrical systems design drawings and interpret ship specifications.
- Evaluate power and lighting systems, and electric or diesel-electric propulsion.
- Write electrical system specifications for concept, preliminary, and contract-level designs and ship modifications.
- Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
- Perform design and calculations.
- Conduct performance studies.
- Develop reports.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Marine or Electrical Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
- At least six (6) years of progressive experience in Marine Electrical fields.
- Overall experience must include at least five (5) years of documented experience working in one of the following specialized fields: electric propulsion, machinery control, power generation or distribution systems.
- At least one (1) year of experience related to U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs required.
- Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs preferred.
Salary and Benefits
The anticipated pay range for this position is $110,000 - 140,000.
