Position Overview

The Family Engagement Specialist plays a crucial role within the administrative framework, collaborating closely with the principal. This position is dedicated to fostering strong connections between parents and the school community, particularly focusing on engaging parents who may have limited proficiency in English.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enhance parental involvement by actively collaborating with various school, parent, and community organizations.
  • Act as a mediator for concerns and issues raised by parents and the school community, addressing topics such as school policies and facility matters.
  • Implement outreach initiatives to encourage parents to participate in their children's educational journey.
  • Organize regular meetings and events centered around issues of significant interest to parents.
  • Participate in parent meetings alongside the principal when appropriate.
  • Assist the school parent association in establishing by-laws, conducting elections, and managing their operations in compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Serve as a liaison between the school and Central and Field-based parent support staff.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with community organizations that provide services to enhance the educational program.
  • Coordinate back-to-school events and other activities to boost parental and community engagement, ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for parents.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution along with two years of relevant community work experience; or an Associate's degree with four years of related experience; or a high school diploma with six years of pertinent community work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with the public school system.
  • Experience as a public school parent.
  • Proven ability to convene workshops.
  • Bilingual capabilities in areas with significant non-English speaking populations.
  • Strong communication, organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Conflict resolution and mediation expertise.
  • Experience in working with families and parents on educational and community matters.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google applications.
