THE OPPORTUNITY
This position represents a fully qualified journey-level classification that provides technical assistance to departmental information technology systems and services. Employees in this role perform a comprehensive range of assigned duties, work independently, and demonstrate sound judgment and initiative. They receive minimal instruction or assistance when faced with new or unusual situations and are well-versed in the operating procedures and policies of their work unit.

The selected candidate will have the opportunity to:
  • Execute a variety of technical support tasks within the assigned department; install and configure personal computer hardware and system applications; serve as the primary responder to user inquiries and issues; diagnose and resolve problems; escalate more complex technical issues to central IT staff or third-party vendors and collaborate with them for resolution.
  • Set up personal computer hardware and install system and application software, including word processing, database, spreadsheet, and graphic programs; manage user profiles and security settings.
  • Develop personal computer database applications for departmental users; assess needs, create programs, and train staff on usage; monitor databases for proper updates and operational issues.
  • Design or modify software programs for various departmental projects; gather information from staff regarding tasks requiring automation; develop scripts and code; test for functionality with end users and monitor performance; prepare technical documentation.
  • Provide operational training and guidance to users of the department's personal computer systems and specific applications.
  • Review and recommend hardware and software solutions for departmental use; identify suitable generic or specialized software to meet departmental needs.

IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will possess experience in delivering exceptional customer service to non-technical end users. This role will support Behavioral Health staff with help desk assistance for their Electronic Health Record system serving community Medi-Cal beneficiaries.

Human Resources will evaluate your application to determine if you meet the minimum qualifications based on the following criteria:

Equivalent to an Associate degree with major coursework in information technology, computer science, or a related field, AND two (2) years of experience providing technical support for desktop computer hardware and software systems.

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Driver's License by the time of appointment and a satisfactory driving record.
