Primary Objective: Lead and oversee the execution of a comprehensive school counseling framework while aiding students in their emotional, academic, and social growth.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Student & Institutional Support
  • Advocate for District initiatives and foster a growth mindset among staff, parents, community members, and students.
  • Assist in the development and execution of transition strategies from elementary to middle school, middle to high school, and from high school to post-secondary education.
  • Act as the communication bridge between the Counseling Services department and campus leadership during meetings.
  • Serve as the appointed liaison for inter-district communications.
  • Facilitate comprehensive school counseling initiatives and activities.
  • Review student records and communicate findings regarding summer school policies and procedures.
  • Prepare reports as requested by Counseling Services throughout the academic year.
  • Coordinate all required professional development training for faculty and staff at the campus level.
  • Conduct campus needs assessments to evaluate the effectiveness of the Comprehensive School Counseling Program.
  • Present relevant information during Parent Teacher Student Association meetings.
  • Organize vertical team meetings with all counselors within the feeder pattern.
  • Coordinate Guidance Advisory Committee meetings with designated stakeholders.
  • Create a counseling departmental calendar that aligns with the district's counseling services calendar.
  • Organize and lead weekly campus counseling team meetings.
  • Assist in identifying and implementing interventions to enhance student success and minimize dropout rates.
  • Act as the primary contact for all stakeholders regarding the dissemination of information.
  • Support the monitoring and review of students' academic records to identify appropriate course selections in line with grade-level state accountability standards, including College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR).
Program Oversight
  • Assist in monitoring PEIMS data collection to ensure accurate data submission to the Texas Education Agency.
  • Support school counselors in developing, implementing, and documenting classroom guidance lessons for all grade levels, addressing academic, personal, and social/emotional issues, such as character education and teen dating violence.
  • Plan, coordinate, and document reviews of programs, initiatives, and objectives of Counseling and Advising as requested by the Director of Counseling and Advising.
Communication and Community Engagement
  • Represent the District on various District and community committees.
  • Exhibit professional and responsible work habits.
  • Utilize professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Foster a District-wide culture centered on student learning goals, emphasizing trust, respect, and accountability for students, parents, teachers, and staff.
  • Deliver quality customer service and maintain professionalism when interacting with staff, parents, community members, and students.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with Principals and the Director of Counseling and Advising.
Selected candidates for positions within the Dallas Independent School District will be assigned according to compensation guidelines.

A security check and disclosure of family relationship information is required for all positions.

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge and Skills
  • Familiarity with the American School Counseling Association (ASCA) National Model; Texas Model for Comprehensive School Counseling Programs; Career and Technical Education Programs; Texas graduation plans; PK-12 guidance and curriculum; credit accrual in high school; community agency resources and referral processes; and group and systems processing.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, and present District-wide training; possess strong organizational, communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; have proficiency in district student management systems; interpret data; and manage budgets and district-wide projects.

• Master's degree in Guidance Counseling; valid Texas counseling certificate; valid Texas teacher certificate

• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with diverse groups

• Strong interpersonal skills to engage with all levels of employees, staff members, and the general public

• Proficiency with technology required in a professional office setting

• Ability to foster a positive, caring environment

• Capable of managing all aspects of assignments from initiation to completion

• Effective and efficient decision-making abilities

• Ability to coordinate multiple projects and assignments; high degree of flexibility required

• Knowledgeable in counseling procedures, student assessment, and facilitating student development

• Familiarity with social and emotional learning competencies, restorative practices, and positive behavior interventions

• Ability to interact and communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents

• Proven ability to coach school staff and provide support in implementing SEL-based approaches at the student, classroom, and school-wide levels

• Demonstrated capacity to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions

• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
