We are currently seeking a highly driven Instructional Coach in Columbus, OH who is passionate about mentoring staff to foster a challenging yet supportive atmosphere that emphasizes student engagement and success for every learner.

With a growing network of 80 charter schools, ACCEL Schools employs a diverse team of dedicated administrators and educators who prioritize research-based practices and are eager to develop professionally. Our mission is to enhance student achievement, overcoming historical challenges, while engaging in continuous professional development, embedded instructional coaching, and maintaining a growth-oriented mindset. The Instructional Coach plays a vital role in this mission.

The Instructional Coach is responsible for providing ongoing, job-embedded professional development for Directors of Academics, teachers, and school staff. This role includes supporting school leadership in data analysis and decision-making regarding professional development. The coach will also offer guidance to Directors of Academics to enhance their content knowledge and effective coaching delivery. Ultimately, the objective of the Instructional Coach is to empower the school and its educators to meet the diverse learning needs of all students, ensuring that staff acquire the necessary skills and understanding to improve instructional practices and elevate student academic performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage in and/or facilitate all required professional development for Directors of Academics. The Instructional Coach must acquire the knowledge, skills, and instructional strategies necessary to positively influence the teaching practices of the educators they support.
  • Assess the teaching and learning needs of the school by analyzing student data, identifying barriers, and implementing collaborative problem-solving strategies with teachers.
  • Oversee Directors of Academics as they provide essential support to teachers.
  • Evaluate instructional effectiveness and student progress using tools and strategies developed through professional development.
  • Collaborate with other Regional Directors of Academics, ACCEL Shared Services teams, and Regional Vice Presidents to ensure alignment on goals and strategies for each school.
  • Assist in the collaborative development of district-wide diagnostic and benchmark assessments.
  • Deliver continuous and targeted professional development for Directors of Academics that aligns with the school’s curriculum and instructional goals, ensuring sustained student achievement.
  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid teaching credential in Ohio relevant to the area of responsibility.
  • Experience in differentiated instruction within a standards-based curriculum.
  • Required training and certification in relevant content areas.
  • A minimum of three years of successful instructional experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.

Experience Requirements:

The success of any coaching initiative relies on selecting a candidate who is not only highly qualified as an educator but also possesses deep content knowledge and expertise in effective coaching practices. The Instructional Coach must meet the following criteria:

  • Exhibit extensive knowledge of relevant content areas and the ability to apply research-based strategies to facilitate access to content standards for students of all academic levels.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing a variety of instructional approaches, resources, and technologies pertinent to the content area(s).
  • Show skill in analyzing and applying data for instructional decision-making, particularly in differentiated instruction for diverse learners.
  • Possess strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and organizational skills essential for effective coaching and staff development.
  • Demonstrate the ability to design high-quality professional development for school leaders, either independently or collaboratively.
  • Have the knowledge and skills necessary to implement a standards-based curriculum with approved instructional materials.
