Job Responsibilities:
The College of Arts and Sciences, specifically within the Division of Arts and Humanities and the Music Program, is in search of a distinguished performer and adaptable music educator specializing in woodwinds. The successful candidate will oversee the instrumental music and music education initiatives.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering undergraduate courses and personalized lessons, with potential for hybrid or online formats.
- Leading recruitment efforts for the program within the metropolitan area.
- Facilitating student transitions from Associate to Bachelor and Master of Arts in Teaching degrees while ensuring compliance with established curricular standards.
- Promoting a collaborative and professional atmosphere within the program and across the division to enhance appreciation for the fine arts and humanities.
Additional duties encompass participation in various committees, maintaining an active performance and research portfolio, and engaging in service and administrative tasks aimed at elevating program quality. A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of teaching, research, and service is highly valued.
Essential Duties:
The role involves teaching courses in applied woodwinds, woodwind ensembles, woodwind methods, and instrumental conducting, as well as music education courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Responsibilities also include:
- Providing academic support and mentorship across various degree programs.
- Coordinating instrumental music and music education programs, acting as a liaison for curricular support.
- Engaging with local schools and educators to foster community relationships.
- Maintaining a record of scholarly and creative contributions.
- Organizing recruitment initiatives and enhancing outreach efforts.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a graduate degree in music education or a related field, with preference given to those holding a doctorate. Additional qualifications include:
- Proficiency in teaching across all levels in the applied woodwind area.
- Experience in conducting and developing instrumental ensembles.
- A minimum of three years of successful teaching experience in public schools.
- Prior college or university teaching experience.
- Familiarity with NASM standards and CAEP accreditation processes.
- A demonstrated record as a versatile performer.
