Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Optical Assistant to join our team at SSM Health. As an Optical Assistant, you will play a vital role in the care and treatment of eye care patients, utilizing your skills and knowledge to provide exceptional patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Assist eye care providers in the exam and treatment of patients, ensuring accurate and timely documentation of patient information.
  • Perform various testing procedures, including visual acuity measurement, color vision testing, and tonometry, to assess patient vision and eye health.
  • Act as a scribe, documenting clinically relevant information and dialogue during patient visits, ensuring accurate and comprehensive records.
  • Provide patient education and support, under the direction of eye care providers, to promote patient understanding and adherence to treatment plans.
  • Assist with minor surgery procedures and laser treatments, including application and removal of dressings as directed.
  • Inventories and maintains surgical instruments, adhering to system and department standards.
  • Screen patients and respond to emergency/urgent situations, obtaining pertinent information for providers.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; one year of healthcare experience preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritizing tasks and managing multiple responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, providers, and other healthcare team members.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information with discretion.
  • Physical stamina to perform duties, including standing, walking, and lifting, as required.
