Job Summary

Fulfill patient prescriptions for glasses and contact lenses, ensuring accurate and comfortable fittings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Interpret and analyze current prescriptions, reviewing historical information for consistency and reasonableness.
  • Recognize inconsistencies and irregularities in prescription history, consulting with doctors as needed.
  • Troubleshoot basic and advanced vision complaints related to eyeglasses and contact lenses.
  • Assist patients in selecting eyewear, determining proper frame and lens selections while considering prescription implications.
  • Effectively demonstrate features and benefits to reinforce value to customers, maximizing sales.
  • Take necessary optical measurements with high accuracy.
  • Explain procedures and reasons to customers, ensuring their satisfaction.
  • Inspect jobs with a lensometer for prescription verification, requesting corrections as necessary.
  • Manage on-site inventory within directed budgets, including frames, supplies, and accessories.
  • Assist in dispensing contact lenses.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of available insurance and safety plans.
  • Work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
Requirements
  • High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience.
  • One year of optical field or customer service experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech for oral communication.
  • Frequent use of vision for distances near and far, and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, sitting, squatting, and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Occasional use of vision to judge distances and spatial relationships.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting/moving patients.
  • Occasional use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
  • Occasional driving.
Professional Requirements
  • American Board of Opticianry Certification (ABOC) - The American Board of Opticianry and National Contact Lens Examiners (ABO-NCLE).
