Job Responsibilities
As a Clinical Laboratory Specialist, you will be responsible for:
1. Regularly rotating through different laboratory areas where you have received training and demonstrated competence.
2. Conducting a comprehensive array of laboratory tests in areas such as Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Microbiology, and Transfusion Medicine.
3. Executing advanced laboratory procedures while identifying deviations from expected outcomes and applying scientific principles to resolve issues.
4. Communicating critical results that may impact patient care.
5. Ensuring optimal performance of laboratory equipment, maintaining accurate documentation, and performing necessary repairs and preventive maintenance.
6. Implementing quality control and assurance measures, documenting corrective actions, and utilizing statistical principles for performance improvement.
7. Entering and verifying laboratory results in the information system, addressing any discrepancies with scientific analysis.
8. Undertaking additional duties as assigned that align with the responsibilities of a Clinical Laboratory Specialist.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- An accredited Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a related field, along with completion of an accredited clinical practice program.
OR
- An accredited Bachelor's degree with specific coursework in biological sciences, chemistry, and mathematics, accompanied by two years of post-certification clinical laboratory experience as a certified Medical Laboratory Technician.
- A minimum of one year of experience as a Clinical Laboratory Specialist within the last three years.
- Proven knowledge of laboratory techniques and practices, as well as relevant education and clinical training.
Physical Requirements
All candidates must be capable of:
- Sitting, standing, walking, lifting, squatting, bending, twisting, and reaching overhead during the work shift.
- Lifting up to 50 lbs from floor to waist and carrying up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance.
- Pushing or pulling with a force of 30 lbs.
