Job Title: Associate Director of the Writing Center

Join Kean University's Nancy Thompson Learning Commons as the Associate Director of the Writing Center, a dynamic and innovative team dedicated to supporting student success. As a key member of our Learning Support Services team, you will play a critical role in shaping the Writing Center's operations and initiatives.

Job Summary:

The Associate Director of the Writing Center will oversee the day-to-day activities of the Writing Center, including managing training materials, procedures, and personnel. This position requires a flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours, and occasional travel to other locations. The ideal candidate will have a Master's degree in English, Writing, Education, or a related field, and two years of professional experience in an educational and/or learning commons setting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the Writing Center's operations, including training materials, procedures, and personnel.
  • Develop and implement data-informed programming to meet the needs of the Writing Center and the University.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Learning Support Services and other Learning Commons' colleagues to assess and address writing and research needs throughout the University.
  • Design learning experiences that help students from diverse backgrounds become critical and ethical writers and researchers.
  • Manage writing tutors, deliver writing workshops, and collaborate with librarians to create a holistic Writing Center.
  • Implement training and oversight of an increasingly networked, interactive, and collaborative environment.
Requirements:
  • Master's degree in English, Writing, Education, or a related field.
  • Two years of professional experience in an educational and/or learning commons setting.
  • Advanced understanding of digital and face-to-face delivery of services and best practices to support students and student engagement.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in English, Writing, Education, or a related field.
  • Specialty in Education, Instructional Design, or student learning support pedagogy.
  • Prior experience in the delivery and/or direction of writing.
