Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Registered Nurse to join our Labor and Delivery team at UP Health System - Bell. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide exceptional patient care and support to laboring women and newborns.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care to laboring women and newborns using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
  • Perform plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, and other medical care treatments.
  • Document patient care given and monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to the care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assist patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborate as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluate learning needs of patient and/or family and provide patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Work as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • Follow established policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.
  • Willing and able to demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.
  • Complete a comprehensive assessment according to hospital policy.
  • Formulate a nursing diagnosis from assessment of the patient's acute and chronic health problems.
  • Communicate effectively all patient assessment data with the healthcare professionals responsible for the patient.
  • Complete a written care plan for assigned patients and review and revise according to established nursing guidelines.
  • Provide the daily care of each patient assigned in compliance with the written care plan.
  • Demonstrate knowledge based in areas of, but not limited to, standards of care, practice and professional performance, policies and procedures, drugs, lab values, and legal issues.
  • Serve on hospital committees and/or participate in QI activities as directed by the Department Manager.
  • Demonstrate self-directed learning and participate in continuing education; attend scheduled meetings.
  • Perform admitting procedures as regards to the obstetrical patient according to policy and procedure.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of induction procedures.
  • Demonstrate ability to perform in delivery room, birthing room, and/or operating room.
  • Demonstrate ability to provide newborn care/screening procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge/skill to provide postpartum care.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of aseptic techniques.
  • Demonstrate awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for personal professional growth.
  • Assist with orientation of new employees and staff development activities for the unit.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Support the culture of service excellence throughout the organization.
  • Actively seek ways to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Complete annual educational requirements.
  • Understand and adhere to Bell's compliance standards as they appear in Bell's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct, and Conflict of Interest Policy.
Requirements
  • Graduate of school of nursing
  • Current license to practice as an RN in the State of Michigan
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP)
  • Licenses: Valid RN license in the State of Michigan
