Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse to join our team at UP Health System - Bell. As an Emergency Department Registered Nurse PRN, you will provide high-quality patient care and work collaboratively with our interdisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care to patients using the nursing process in accordance with applicable scope and standards of practice.
  • Perform plan of care intervention, including medication administration, specimen collection, clinical treatments, as well as other medical care treatment.
  • Document patient care given.
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to care team, physician, patient, and family.
  • Assist patients with performing activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
  • Collaborate as needed across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
  • Evaluate learning needs of patient and/or family and provide patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances.
  • Work as an advocate for the physical and emotional well-being of the patient.
  • Follow established policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.
  • Willing and able to demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.
  • Complete a comprehensive assessment according to hospital policy as related to management of emergencies in the Emergency Department.
  • Patient Triage.
  • Formulate a nursing diagnosis from assessment of patients' acute and chronic health problems.
  • Perform emergency procedures according to policy/procedure.
  • Assess patient and patient representative's current learning needs and implement appropriate measures to meet knowledge deficits.
  • Demonstrate knowledge based on areas of, but not limited to, standards of care, practice and professional performance, policies and procedures, medications, lab values and legal issues.
  • Serve on hospital committees and/or participate in Q1 activities as directed by the Department Manager.
  • Assist with orientation of new employees and staff development activities for the unit.
  • Abide by Nursing Service Behavior Standards.
  • Perform additional job-related duties and functions as required.
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Support the culture of service excellence throughout the organization.
  • Actively seek ways to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Complete annual educational requirements.
  • Understand and adhere to Bell's compliance standards as they appear in Bell's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.
Requirements
  • Graduate of a school of nursing.
  • Current license to practice as an RN in the State of Michigan.
  • Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Preferred Skills
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • Preferred: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nursing Course Certified (TNCC)
