Position Overview
The Registered Nurse in the Acute Care Unit is responsible for delivering direct patient care through the nursing process, adhering to the established standards of practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Administers medications, collects specimens, and performs clinical treatments as part of the care plan.
- Documents all patient care activities accurately and thoroughly.
- Monitors and communicates patient conditions to the care team, physicians, patients, and families.
- Assists patients with daily living activities, including hygiene, nutrition, and mobility.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient care, including transfers, discharges, and psychosocial support.
- Evaluates the educational needs of patients and families, providing tailored education based on age, culture, and health status.
- Advocates for the physical and emotional well-being of patients.
- Adheres to established policies, safety standards, and confidentiality protocols.
- Completes thorough assessments of patients' health issues and formulates nursing diagnoses.
- Develops and updates care plans in accordance with nursing guidelines.
- Participates in hospital committees and quality improvement initiatives as directed.
- Engages in ongoing professional development and continuing education.
- Facilitates the orientation of new staff and contributes to staff development activities.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Current RN license in the State of Michigan or a valid temporary license for graduate nurses.
- Preferred: Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
- Minimum of one year of experience in an acute care environment.
- Critical thinking skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications, or willingness to obtain within the first year of employment.
