Position Overview

The Green Bean LLC is a dedicated and environmentally-conscious establishment catering to children from six weeks to six years old. As a family-operated business since 2009, we take pride in being Chicago's pioneering Reggio Emilia-inspired early childhood education program. Our role encompasses being educators, caregivers, and partners committed to collaborating with families to help children reach their fullest potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Designing weekly lesson plans that incorporate a project-based approach, focusing on science, math, literacy, and physical development.
  • Implementing a structured daily schedule that includes choice time, circle time, and art/sensory activities.
  • Ensuring high-quality care, including diaper changes, handwashing protocols, family-style dining, and monitoring child safety and well-being.
  • Documenting group activities through photographs, observations, and reflective practices.
  • Conducting regular assessments for individual portfolios.
  • Facilitating parent-teacher conferences and conducting home visits when appropriate.
  • Supervising teaching assistants, including conducting team meetings and providing training on documentation and project work.
  • Maintaining an updated parent blog on a daily basis.
  • Participating in annual open houses and other family-oriented events.
  • Engaging in ongoing professional development, with a minimum requirement of 15 hours per year.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field preferred, with at least six semester hours in child care and/or child development courses.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in providing care and education for children aged 2 to 5 years in a group childcare setting.
  • Familiarity with the Reggio Emilia Approach and documentation practices is preferred.
  • Commitment to developing teaching skills through reflective practices.
  • Understanding of developmentally appropriate practices and DCFS licensing standards.
  • Possession of valid DCFS-required certifications (SIDS, SBS, Food Handler, etc.).
  • Three written character references.
  • Completion of a background check and fingerprinting.
  • Availability for full-time work between 7:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with a schedule coordinated with the Director.
  • Compliance with all DCFS licensing requirements, including a physical examination confirming freedom from communicable diseases.
