The Green Bean LLC is dedicated to providing a nurturing and environmentally-conscious setting for children from six weeks to six years old. As a family-owned establishment since 2009, we are proud to be Chicago's pioneering Reggio Emilia-inspired early childhood education program. Our mission is to deliver exceptional childcare and educational experiences within a thoughtfully designed environment that fosters connections among children, families, and educators.

Our approach is rooted in the renowned Reggio Emilia philosophy, emphasizing the importance of children's interests and incorporating:

  • Holistic Development: Encouraging verbal, motor, social, and critical-thinking skills through a play-based, arts-integrated curriculum tailored to developmental stages.
  • Inviting Learning Spaces: Creating bright, open environments that stimulate learning through exploration and engagement of the five senses.
  • Collaborative Partnerships: Fostering strong relationships among parents, educators, and children.
  • Reflective Documentation: Capturing children's learning journeys through observations and shared experiences.

We believe in the power of long-term projects and open discussions that weave together language arts, social studies, science, dramatic play, and creative expression. Our role encompasses teaching, caregiving, and partnering with families to support children in reaching their highest potential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Designing weekly lesson plans centered around the project approach, incorporating activities in science, mathematics, literacy, and physical development.
  • Implementing a structured daily schedule that includes choice time, circle time, and creative activities.
  • Providing exceptional care, including diaper changes, handwashing protocols, family-style dining, and ensuring the safety and well-being of each child.
  • Documenting group activities through photographs, observations, and reflective practices.
  • Conducting regular assessments for individual portfolios.
  • Facilitating parent-teacher conferences and, when appropriate, home visits.
  • Supervising teaching assistants, including leading team meetings, modeling interactions, and training on documentation and project work.
  • Maintaining an updated parent blog on a daily basis.
  • Engaging in annual events and family gatherings at the school.
  • Participating in ongoing professional development, with a minimum requirement of 15 hours per year.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field is preferred, with at least six semester hours in courses related to childcare and child development.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in providing care and education for children aged 2 to 5 years in a group childcare setting.
