Position Overview

Reporting directly to the COO/CFO, the Finance & Portfolio Operations Analyst will be responsible for overseeing essential aspects of the firm's data management processes. This includes systematizing all elements related to portfolio and fund management, from deal execution to data collection and investor reporting, along with associated analytics.

This role offers exposure to various facets of Activate and facilitates direct interaction with both the finance and investment teams. Please note that this position is not focused on investment activities and does not lead to a career path as an investor within Activate.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Management

  • Manage the comprehensive portfolio data management process, including financial metrics and KPI collection, quality control, and data presentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee data aggregation tools and third-party platforms for portfolio monitoring, fund cash flows, ESG metrics, and due diligence.
  • Implement best practices for the storage and maintenance of portfolio and fund-level data, ensuring efficient reporting across various workflows.
  • Collaborate with investment and finance teams to facilitate quarterly valuation processes and manage investment cash flows.
  • Prepare financial models, analyses, and presentations regarding fund and portfolio performance for diverse use cases.

Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation of quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reports for limited partners and prospective investors.
  • Coordinate the collection of impact metrics for the firm's annual sustainability report, working with third-party data providers.
  • Aggregate and present portfolio and fund data in various formats, including tables, slides, and charts.
  • Respond to investor inquiries regarding portfolio company data, including financials and ESG metrics.
  • Support marketing initiatives related to investment announcements across multiple channels.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Participate in fundraising activities, including data room management and document preparation.
  • Utilize various data sources to conduct research that supports investment, finance, and fundraising efforts.
  • Continuously seek improvements in internal systems and processes through tool development and automation.
  • Undertake other ad hoc projects as assigned.

Essential Skills and Qualifications

  • Strong proficiency in data analysis and management methodologies.
  • Exceptional Excel skills, with the ability to model and forecast financial data; proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook is also required.
  • Solid understanding of financial statements; basic accounting knowledge is essential, with valuation knowledge being a plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proactive project management skills with a collaborative mindset.
  • Desire to develop and operationalize tools and processes, along with a curiosity to ensure their effectiveness.
  • Enthusiasm for cross-functional collaboration and a willingness to learn about the intricacies of venture capital.

Experience Requirements

  • 2-4 years of experience as an analyst in a financial or business data analyst role, preferably within an accounting firm, corporate environment, or credit/commercial banking.
  • A bachelor's degree is required; a degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred.
