HDR is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to become part of our expanding power team in Michigan.


Key Responsibilities:

The ideal candidate for the Senior Electrical Engineer role should possess experience in the industrial, utility, and renewable power sectors, with the capability to lead teams on power generation design projects and fulfill a traditional Owner's Engineering role.

The successful applicant will have extensive knowledge in power distribution, generation, motor control, auxiliary power studies, lighting, grounding, specification writing, studies, scheduling, and cost estimation. A keen interest and experience in the dynamic field of renewables is highly valued.

Moreover, the candidate will be expected to assist in managing client relationships and support marketing initiatives, including proposal development in response to requests for proposals. Significant experience in design-build projects involving power plant systems is preferred.


Detailed Duties:

- Coordinate the efforts of Electrical Engineers alongside a multidisciplinary team throughout the entire project lifecycle.

- Establish and maintain client relationships, and engage in marketing, design, and production meetings concerning electrical systems.

- Assume the electrical lead role on various projects.

- Participate in reviews with relevant governing agencies to ensure code compliance.

- Conduct schematic, design development, and contract document work sessions at the project site in collaboration with the Project Manager, Project Architect, and other disciplines.

- Manage workload throughout the project development to ensure timely completion of documents.

- Monitor the financial aspects of projects, coordinating and adjusting team efforts to meet agreed-upon schedules.

- Collaborate with the Project Manager and Regional Controller for project reviews with corporate management as necessary.

- Direct the activities of other electrical engineering professionals and mentor junior staff as required.

- Perform additional duties as necessary.


Qualifications:

Required:

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.

- Professional Engineering License.

- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the power industry.

- Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills.

- Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to work independently, lead a multidisciplinary consulting team, or guide a small team.

- Experience in protection and control design, including drawing and settings development.

- Field experience, including startup and commissioning, is desirable.

- Proficient in electrical design software (ETAP, SKM, etc.) and strong computer skills.

- Experience in renewable energy (PV, BESS, etc.) and DER or microgrid projects is highly sought after.

- Knowledge of instrumentation and controls, particularly with DCS and PLC systems, is a plus.

- A commitment to actively participating in our employee-owned culture is essential.

- Position entails less than 10% travel for client and vendor meetings, as well as project site visits.

- Extensive knowledge of three-phase electrical power, protection and control design, system grounding, physical design, and related activities such as lighting and signal design, including life safety systems and building management systems.

- Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and electrical design software.

Preferred:

- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis.

- Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm is desirable.
