The City of New York is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as the Chief of Repairs and Maintenance in the Department of Environmental Protection. This is a critical role that requires strong leadership and management skills, as well as expertise in water and sewer maintenance.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee and direct managers in complex activities relating to the maintenance of watercourse and related structure and sewage drainage systems.
- Coordinate personnel, equipment, and materials in relation to water main breaks, sewer breaks, major floods, hydrant alerts, water quality emergencies, and other emergency response situations.
- Develop and implement operational efficiencies based on Agency and Bureau-wide strategic initiatives and goals.
- Administer contracts for equipment vehicles used to maintain the bureau's water and sewer system.
- Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, City regulations, Environmental, Health and Safety laws, Rules, and regulations, policy standards, and procedures.
- A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer.
- Six years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, at least two years of which must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.
- Expert knowledge of the operation of large municipal water systems.
- A valid New York State Professional Engineer's License.
- Excellent knowledge of all government laws regarding water quality, water quantity, and the operation of the city's reservoirs.
- The ability to communicate and interface with various city, state, federal, and local governments.
- Excellent management skills, including planning, coordination, problem-solving, supervision, and control.
- Excellent verbal and writing skills.
