Position Overview:
As an Automotive Technician III, you will operate under the general oversight of the Fleet Service Manager. Your primary responsibilities will include conducting safety inspections and emissions testing on a variety of vehicles, as well as performing essential maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct Utah State safety inspections and emissions tests (Gas & Diesel) on municipal vehicles.
  • Perform routine automotive fluid changes and tire repairs, including mounting and balancing.
  • Utilize computerized diagnostic equipment to troubleshoot vehicle issues.
  • Diagnose and repair charging systems, including battery replacements.
  • Assess and replace suspension and steering components as necessary.
  • Remove and replace drivetrain components and recharge AC systems.
  • Install emergency lighting and equipment, ensuring proper functionality.
  • Manage the installation of decals and the decommissioning of vehicles and equipment.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workshop environment.
  • Assist fellow mechanics with complex repairs as needed.

Compensation:
Starting pay is set at $31.61 per hour, with potential additional compensation based on experience.

Work Schedule:
This position requires a commitment of 40 hours per week, from Monday to Thursday, 6:30 AM to 5:00 PM.

Essential Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to:
  • Read and interpret technical documents, including wiring schematics and safety regulations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Approach assignments with a positive attitude and willingness to adapt to shift changes and overtime.

Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or GED is required, along with a minimum of four years of relevant experience or a combination of education and experience.

Language Proficiency:
Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is essential.

Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply basic math, algebra, and geometry to solve complex vehicle maintenance and repair issues.

Licenses and Certifications:
A valid Utah Driver License is mandatory. Candidates must obtain specific certifications within the first year of employment, with associated testing fees covered by the Fleet division.

Physical Requirements:
This role involves regular physical activity, including lifting up to 100 pounds and performing various manual tasks. Candidates should be prepared for exposure to mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and potential stress from deadlines and workloads.
