Position Overview:
As an Automotive Service Technician, you will play a crucial role in assisting the Service Director by inspecting, maintaining, and repairing vehicles. Utilizing advanced diagnostic tools, you will identify issues and perform necessary adjustments or repairs. Upholding the highest ethical standards is essential in this position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnose mechanical issues using visual inspections and computer diagnostic equipment.
- Conduct tests on various parts and systems to ensure optimal mechanical performance.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks, including oil changes and tune-ups.
- Identify the causes of malfunctions and execute repairs efficiently according to dealership and factory standards.
- Repair or replace vehicle components such as wheels, axles, and brake systems, and service air conditioning units.
- Communicate effectively with the Service Advisor to inform customers about additional service needs.
- Provide accurate estimates for the time required for further repairs.
- Inspect and test new vehicles for damage, documenting findings for necessary repairs.
- Supervise and mentor apprentice or entry-level technicians.
- Conduct further tests, including test drives, to verify the accuracy of repairs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 2 years of experience as an entry-level automotive technician.
- Valid driver's license with a safe driving record.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations affecting automotive operations.
- Capability to perform all essential job functions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- One or more National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications in various automotive specialties.
- Extensive knowledge of vehicle repair and strong mechanical skills.
- Exceptional technical and customer service abilities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in reading work orders and service manuals.
- Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
- Experience with computer diagnostic tools and software.
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly stand, walk, and use hands; reach with arms; talk and hear.
- Occasionally climb, balance, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to perform repairs.
- Good vision for inspecting repair work.
- Ability to work safely in a noisy environment with various odors.
