Job Summary

City Colleges of Chicago is seeking a part-time Carpentry Instructor to join our team. As a Carpentry Instructor, you will be responsible for teaching and mentoring students in the carpentry trade, ensuring they receive comprehensive industry-validated training.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise students in the classroom, laboratory, or trade shop area to ensure they follow class rules and safety procedures.
  • Assist students in understanding lesson plans and project objectives, providing effective feedback.
  • Prepare, maintain, distribute, and collect equipment and supply materials required to meet lesson objectives.
  • Develop and revise courses and instructional materials as necessary.
  • Supervise the cleaning and trash removal from the training/shop area.
  • Create a purposeful, orderly, and supportive learning environment.
  • Assist in problem-solving student issues.
  • Maintain student attendance records and other required records.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings, classroom team planning sessions, and other scheduled meetings.
  • Adhere to policies and procedures established by the instructor.
  • Adhere to CCC Customer Service Excellence standards.
Requirements
  • Associate degree or equivalent credit hours in a related field of study from an accredited college or university, or a Certificate in the related field of study with years of related experience, or a Journeyman Card, or two industry-recognized credentials.
  • Five to seven years of carpentry experience preferred.
  • Active Journeyman Card preferred.
  • Teaching or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Work experience in a teaching environment preferred.
  • Knowledge of current safety standards related to the classroom/shop and building maintenance trade.
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems such as BlackBoard preferred.
  • Exhibit sensitivity to a multicultural student population.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Working independently and exercising sound judgment; maintaining confidentiality in all matters related to students.
  • Ability to work under pressure and exercise flexibility as needed.
  • Ability to promote cooperation between students and educational personnel.
  • Ability to conduct verbal and written instructions and to provide proper assistance to the instructor.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to new tasks with little notice.
  • Ability to work with a diverse population.
  • Ability to operate related tools and equipment of assigned class.
