Role Summary:
The Part-Time ESL Instructor will work under the guidance of the Dean of Adult Education and the Lead ESL Instructor. This role involves delivering engaging classes and developing curriculum-based activities for various English language initiatives, including ESL, EL Civics, and English Literacy.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and deliver instructional materials in alignment with curriculum standards.
  • Assess student progress through various evaluation methods, including quizzes and performance portfolios.
  • Create and grade assessments, ensuring comprehensive evaluation of student learning.
  • Develop syllabus documents and curriculum materials as needed.
  • Maintain a high attendance rate in scheduled classes.
  • Encourage student participation and retention through effective teaching strategies.
  • Receive constructive feedback from students through biannual evaluations.
  • Keep accurate attendance records using both daily sign-in sheets and classroom logs.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues in a team-oriented environment.
  • Exhibit professionalism in interactions with students, staff, and the community.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm for teaching and stay updated on best practices in education.
  • Be available to teach both morning and evening classes as required.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, attending at least four hours every six months.
  • Participate in community events that support the organization’s mission.

Qualifications:

  • Background in language, mathematics, or education.
  • Minimum of one year of experience teaching adults.
  • Experience in syllabus and lesson plan development.
  • Strong communication skills; bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
  • Experience in nonprofit or volunteer environments is a plus.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with diverse populations.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and internet applications.
