Role Summary:
The Part-Time ESL Instructor, under the guidance of the Dean of Adult Education and the Lead ESL Instructor, is tasked with delivering engaging classes and developing curriculum-based activities for various English language initiatives, including ESL, EL Civics, and English Literacy programs.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and deliver instructional materials in alignment with curriculum standards.
  • Assess student progress through various evaluation methods, including quizzes and performance assessments.
  • Create and grade assessments, ensuring they meet educational objectives.
  • Develop syllabus documents and assist in curriculum design for the department.
  • Maintain a minimum attendance rate of 95% for scheduled classes.
  • Encourage student participation and retention through effective teaching strategies.
  • Receive constructive feedback from students during biannual evaluations.
  • Keep accurate attendance records through daily sign-in sheets and classroom logs.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues to foster a supportive teaching environment.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in interactions with students, staff, and the community.
  • Exhibit enthusiasm for teaching and apply current best practices in educational methodologies.
  • Be available to provide instruction during both morning and evening sessions.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development, attending a minimum of four hours every six months.
  • Participate in community events that support the organization’s mission.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in language, education, or a related field.
  • Minimum of one year of experience teaching adults.
  • Experience in syllabus and lesson plan development.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; bilingual in Spanish and English preferred.
  • Experience in nonprofit or volunteer environments is a plus.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with diverse populations.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed under pressure.
  • Dependable and punctual.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and internet applications.
