Under the supervision of the Workforce Development Program Manager, the Career Pathway Instructor is responsible for delivering contextualized educational instruction. This includes subjects such as Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, Mathematics, and Supply Chain Management Training. The instructor also supports students in exploring advanced training opportunities and collaborates on curriculum development, recruitment, enrollment, assessment, retention, and transition to further training.
This full-time position is integral to the Workforce Development program, directly impacting job seekers in the Chicago metropolitan area and surrounding regions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Instructional Duties:
- Deliver classroom instruction tailored for adult learners, integrating Reading, Medical Terminology, Anatomy and Physiology, Mathematics, and Supply Chain Management Training to prepare students for vocational programs, community colleges, or healthcare career paths.
- Administer and evaluate Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) or CASAS GOALS assessments to monitor participant progress.
- Develop, update, and implement a curriculum that aligns with ABE/ASE content standards, utilizing diverse instructional methods and materials to cater to adult learners' needs.
- Customize lesson plans for a multi-level classroom, providing individualized support as necessary.
- Incorporate digital literacy, college and career readiness, Career Foundations, and industry-specific content into the curriculum.
- Advise and guide students on course requirements, expectations, and progress, creating Individualized Education Plans to help track their goals.
- Foster a positive learning environment that encourages creativity and critical thinking.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and address inconsistencies with the Program Manager, ensuring consistent follow-up to enhance retention and engagement.
- Participate in professional development activities in accordance with ICCB guidelines, adapting teaching practices based on current educational methodologies.
- Program Support:
- Engage in regular departmental meetings, curriculum discussions, and task forces.
- Assist with outreach, orientation, assessment, registration, retention, and follow-up for students.
- Support program planning, coordination, and service delivery to achieve desired outcomes.
- Provide necessary documentation to the Program Manager to ensure timely and accurate reporting.
- Conduct CPR and BLS training certification sessions for participants quarterly.
- Collaborate effectively with team members to ensure students receive appropriate support throughout the program.
- Coordinate with partner organizations to facilitate successful transitions for students into vocational training.
- Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations and institutions.
- Participate in recruitment events to promote the programs offered by the Workforce Department.
- Refer participants to additional services within the agency and monitor their utilization.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, Health Care, or a related field, with a minimum of two years of experience in adult education (ABE or ESL) preferred.
- Ability to engage with a diverse group of adult learners.
- Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is required.
- Commitment to social justice and an understanding of the strengths and challenges faced by diverse adult learners.
- Flexible schedule to accommodate work across multiple sites.
- Knowledge of contextualized curriculum development and general educational principles.
- Ability to analyze and interpret student assessment results.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and online educational platforms.
- Demonstrated leadership skills that foster innovation and retention.
- Ability to build rapport with individuals from various cultural backgrounds.
