About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Director of Gift Planning and Development to join our team at Emory University. This is a key leadership position that will play a critical role in advancing our mission to serve humanity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategies for identifying, cultivating, and soliciting planned gifts to support education, patient care, and research programs.
  • Manage a portfolio of prospects through an active schedule of solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship calls to donors and new prospects.
  • Develop and implement departmental strategic planning and goal setting.
  • Provide gift planning guidance, education, and technical support to the division.
  • Build relationships among prospective donors, alumni, and volunteers to support programs and priorities.
  • Build relationships with faculty, administrators, deans, and division/University leadership to develop, interpret, and align priorities of the University and healthcare with donor goals/interests.
  • Partner with division advancement offices to ensure that potential gift prospects are properly qualified, cultivated, and stewarded.
  • Enforce the maintenance of information on selected donors and prospects, including contact reports in CRM systems.
  • Communicate in ways that are donor-centric, while furthering the mission of Emory.
  • Travel to meet with donors as needed.
  • Manage a team of professionals that may include advancement and support staff.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree and eight years of related experience in gift planning, estate planning, and/or financial planning with management or leadership experience.
  • Advanced degree or certification in estate and gift planning (J.D. and/or CFP) is preferred.
  • Experience working with bequests, trusts, taxes, and planned giving with a strong working knowledge of tax, trust, and other laws affecting charitable planning.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with attention to detail, the ability to work with ambiguity, and navigate a complex work environment.
  • Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication effective presentation skills and possess the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience leading teams, working independently as well as collaboratively to achieve goals, with a commitment to delivering excellent customer service.
  • Experience managing projects, budgets, and financial reports, working with various technologies including advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, mass email applications, database and project management software, and CRM systems.
  • Prior experience in advancement, fundraising, alumni engagement, non-profit, or a university setting.
  • Flexibility to accommodate changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Possess a high level of professionalism and commitment to confidentiality with sound judgment and discretion.
