Job Title: Research Scientist II

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist II to join our team at Leidos. As a Research Scientist II, you will be responsible for developing and leading scientific research projects addressing various aspects of military medicine.

Job Summary:

The Research Scientist II will work closely with our team to develop cutting-edge modeling and simulation tools and algorithms to address complex issues related to directed energy interactions with biological systems. You will evaluate user needs, concept of operations, and high-level systems architecture to develop modeling and simulation requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead scientific research projects addressing various aspects of military medicine.
  • Develop cutting-edge modeling and simulation tools and algorithms to address complex issues related to directed energy interactions with biological systems.
  • Evaluate user needs, concept of operations, and high-level systems architecture to develop modeling and simulation requirements.
  • Develop algorithms, perform analyses, and automate data processing.
  • Apply digital engineering concepts, processes, and tools to help the government better enable mission operations.
  • Generate documentation on software operation.
  • Test new instrumentation and participate in experiment design.
  • Develop various presentation materials to include proposals, reports, presentations, or journal articles and present findings at technical and professional meetings.
  • Aid in project proposal development and design.
  • Write protocol-driven research proposals, animal use protocols, human research protocols, abstracts, conference presentations, technical reports, final reports, standard operating procedures, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Provide guidance to junior scientist contract personnel on the evaluation of data sets, development of presentation materials, writing of government-approved SOPs for research under contract, and presenting findings at technical and professional meetings.
  • Oversee junior contract personnel during the preparation of experimental subjects and aid in the training and development of experimental subjects for experimental procedures in accordance with approved animal or human use protocols.
  • Provide aid in the development and establishment of in vivo and in vitro model systems, data acquisition, and data analysis.
  • Oversee contract personnel associated with research projects; manage research data.
  • Perform surgical and non-surgical procedures on animal models as needed for both survival and non-survival studies.
Requirements:
  • PhD in a relevant field.
  • Two years of postdoctoral experience or equivalent.
  • Experience using one or more of the following: C++, Python, R, SQL, PostgreSQL, Linux, MATLAB, VBA, or STK is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams with program managers, scientists, and engineers for experiment development and execution.
  • Ability to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level, but current clearance is not required.
  • Current certification or ability to obtain a certification within 3 months of start in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS); American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation); or equivalent. Web-based classes do not meet these standards.
  • Due to Federal contract requirements, US citizenship is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Engineering analysis (collecting, organizing, analyzing data) experience (Preferred).
  • Experience in military medical research laboratory (Preferred).
  • Experience with military electronic equipment (Preferred).
