Leidos is seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist II to join our team in San Antonio, TX. As a key member of our Directed Energy Health Effects Directorate, you will contribute to groundbreaking research and development in the field of military medicine.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and lead protocol-driven scientific research addressing various aspects of military medicine, including biomodelling, biophotonics, diagnostic platforms, and directed energy health/medical effects.
  • Determine requirements from approved experimental protocols and schedule exposures of appropriate RF field power density, pulse duration, and pulse repetition rate.
  • Execute complex laboratory tests of RF systems and independently redesign and modify in-service RF systems to meet experimental requirements.
  • Reverse engineer RF field power density, pulse duration, and pulse repetition rate from potential RF exposure scenarios.
  • Monitor and maintain real-time data collection capabilities.
  • Develop and implement new laboratory standard operating procedures.
  • Test new instrumentation and participate in experiment design.
  • Write protocol-driven research proposals, animal use protocols, human research protocols, abstracts, conference presentations, technical reports, final reports, standard operating procedures, and peer-reviewed manuscripts.
  • Provide guidance to junior scientist contract personnel on the evaluation of data sets, development of presentation materials, writing of Government-approved SOPs for research under contract, and presenting findings at technical and professional meetings.
  • Oversee junior contract personnel during the preparation of experimental subjects and aid in the training and development of experimental subjects for experimental procedures in accordance with approved animal or human use protocols.
  • Aid in the development and establishment of in vivo and in vitro model systems, data acquisition, and data analysis.
  • Oversee contract personnel associated with research projects; manage research data.
  • Perform surgical and non-surgical procedures on animal models as needed for both survival and non-survival studies.
Requirements:
  • PhD in a relevant field.
  • Two years of postdoctoral experience or equivalent.
  • Experience using one or more of the following: C++, Python, R, SQL, PostgreSQL, Linux, MATLAB, VBA, or STK is preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional teams with program managers, scientists, and engineers for experiment development and execution.
  • Ability to acquire, at a minimum, a SECRET classification access level. Preference will be given to a candidate who already has this clearance level, but current clearance is not required.
  • Current certification or ability to obtain a certification within 3 months of start in American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS); American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Course; American Red Cross CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation); or equivalent.
  • Web-based classes do not meet these standards.
  • Due to Federal contract requirements, US citizenship is required.
