Position Overview:
The Association of Village Council Presidents is seeking a dedicated Compact Services Support Specialist. This role is pivotal in assisting the Tribal Child Welfare Unit to achieve and sustain full compliance with the Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA) for tribal youth in out-of-home care.

Key Responsibilities:
As a Compact Services Support Specialist, you will:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the Indian Child Welfare Act and the Child Welfare Systems in Alaska.
  • Manage referrals from the Office of Children's Services, providing support for licensing, home safety evaluations, and relative searches.
  • Engage in periodic travel to various communities to offer direct support to relative caregivers and to facilitate recruitment initiatives.
  • Assist families in completing the State of Alaska Foster Parent application, including necessary documentation and licensure requirements.
  • Foster connections between unlicensed relative placements and kinship care providers with financial aid, training, and essential resources.
  • Plan and execute multiple recruitment events for foster care providers across the region.
  • Coordinate training sessions for ICWA staff and Tribes regarding the services outlined in the Tribal State Compact.
  • Maintain accurate records of compacted services and prepare billing documents and reports as required.
  • Collaborate closely with placements, relative providers, Tribes, and relevant agencies to ensure effective service delivery.

This position is essential for ensuring that children remain connected to their families, communities, and cultural heritage.
