Oral Health Specialist

Bethel Family Clinic is seeking an experienced Oral Health Specialist to join our team in providing high-quality preventive care services to our patients. As an Oral Health Specialist, you will play a vital role in promoting oral health and wellness in our community.
Salary and BenefitsThe salary for this position is estimated to be around $65,000 - $85,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include a comprehensive health insurance package, paid time off, and opportunities for professional growth and development.
Job DescriptionAs an Oral Health Specialist, you will be responsible for providing preventive patient services, including:
- Child and adult prophylaxis
- Periodontal charting and tissue checks
- Debridement and scaling and root planing
- Fluoride varnish application and silver diamine fluoride application
- Sealants and patient education on oral home care, diet/nutrition, and tobacco cessation
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- An Associate's degree from an accredited dental hygiene program
- At least 1 year of experience in dental hygiene
- Current licensure and good standing with the State of Alaska Board of Dentistry
- Knowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations and guidelines for the provision of dental outpatient services
As an Oral Health Specialist, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering direct patient care using established dental hygiene procedures
- Performing patient triage and initiating patient care as appropriate
- Careful charting of all procedures and associated patient interactions in EDR
- Taking patient vital signs as required
- Recording and reporting pertinent observations and patient reactions to dental staff
- Performing routine treatment procedures, such as polishing, x-rays, and related procedures
- Independently performing emergency dental procedures within scope of practice and assisting with or instituting emergency measures for sudden adverse developments during treatment of patients
- Setting up and preparing dental equipment and instrumentation in accordance with established regulations and guidelines
- Assisting in preparation of patient care areas and in the patient admission, transfer, and discharge process

The physical demands of this role include:
- Frequent talking and hearing
- Standing for long periods of time
- Walking
- Use of hands to finger, handle, or feel

- Frequent lifting and/or moving objects up to 25 pounds
The work environment is a medical/clinical setting, and the role will require OSHA training due to exposure to blood and blood-borne pathogens and/or physical risks.
