Position Summary
The Clinical Nursing Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the excellence of care delivered to patients within their designated area. This position requires collaboration with various disciplines, departments, and support services to enhance patient outcomes. The role demands a high level of professional management and leadership in clinical practice, working closely with the clinical support team.
Operating with significant autonomy, the Clinical Nursing Manager is responsible for achieving optimal clinical and satisfaction outcomes efficiently and effectively.
This position is accountable for overseeing daily clinical operations, ensuring quality of care and services, maintaining regulatory compliance, supporting business development and growth, and achieving key performance indicators and quality outcomes.
The Clinical Nursing Manager will supervise and develop clinicians and direct-care staff, ensuring that all practice standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements are upheld.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and participate in quarterly quality improvement meetings, analyzing relevant data, identifying trends, and overseeing the execution of improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Branch Director to implement quality improvement activities and corrective action plans.
- Provide insights to Operations management regarding necessary adjustments and revisions related to care delivery.
- Ensure all clinical staff complete orientation and required in-services effectively.
- Oversee and respond to external and internal surveys and audits related to quality of care and clinically related KPIs in partnership with operations leadership.
- Serve as a resource with a comprehensive understanding of payer requirements concerning care provision and documentation guidelines.
- Conduct documentation and chart reviews to identify variances in standardized care and processes, pinpointing areas for performance enhancement.
- Facilitate case conferences to ensure oversight of care, coordination of services, and adherence to standards.
- Guarantee that documentation standards meet company expectations to support quality standards, coverage, and reimbursement.
- Ensure coordinated care among all parties involved in patient care.
- Identify variances in standardized care to improve performance related to patient care.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, payer, and company requirements.
- Develop performance improvement action plans based on available data (e.g., survey results, QAPI, and clinical record reviews).
- Achieve staff results by setting clear job expectations, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results, and providing coaching and counseling.
- Oversee the selection and hiring process for clinical staff.
- Conduct interviews and make informed hiring decisions.
- Ensure staff competency and performance evaluations are conducted fairly and timely.
- Provide direct, on-site supervision for all staff as per company requirements.
- Strive to meet organizational performance and retention goals among clinical staff.
- Act as a resource for field staff, assisting with problem-solving to ensure appropriate patient care.
- Serve as a mentor and role model for all professional and direct-care staff.
- Ensure adequate preceptor staff are available for the development and mentoring of clinicians and direct-care staff.
- Be prepared to perform patient visits and on-call duties as necessary.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or Physical Therapy from an accredited institution is preferred.
- Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) or Physical Therapist (PT) in good standing with the State.
- A minimum of one year in a management or supervisory role within home health care is required.
- Current CPR certification is mandatory.
- Must meet all agency pre-employment requirements as dictated by company and/or State regulations.
- Proficient in using company documentation systems.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with all levels of personnel, both internal and external.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Capable of handling highly confidential information responsibly.
