Role Overview

The Engineering Professional will be responsible for the creation, revision, and enhancement of engineering standards that influence all aspects of civil, distribution, transmission, and substation systems design within the organization. This role involves collaboration with various internal teams to assess external suppliers and manufacturers, ensuring the integrity and reliability of materials used.

Additionally, the position requires specialized knowledge in interpreting relevant federal, state, and regulatory standards, along with expertise in identifying material failure modes and the techniques necessary for their inspection and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities


• Assist procurement efforts to enhance material redundancy and address shortages.

• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.

• Assess suppliers' capabilities to produce materials effectively and reliably.

• Review and validate manufacturer drawings to ensure compliance with internal specifications.

• Develop and maintain documentation related to materials and their specifications.

• Ensure all documentation adheres to applicable regulations and standards.

• Lead investigations into equipment failures, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.

• Explore and evaluate new technologies aimed at cost reduction and reliability enhancement.

• Provide field support to resolve issues related to equipment and compliance.

• Collaborate with field teams to address technical challenges and ensure safe operations.

• Review applications related to joint use and pole sizing requests.

• Offer recommendations for material usage based on specific applications.

Qualifications

For Engineer I level:


• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited institution.

• Knowledge of governing body regulations and their impact on engineering standards.

• Understanding of material failure modes and detection methods.

• Basic knowledge of civil, substation, transmission, and distribution system layouts.

• Familiarity with troubleshooting techniques for outages related to material failures.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively across functions.

• Ability to convey technical information effectively to peers.

• Capability to remain composed in challenging discussions.

• Demonstrated research skills for information not readily available within the organization.

• Basic understanding of wildfire mitigation technologies and strategies.

Additional Qualifications for Higher Levels:


• Proven problem-solving abilities and effective solution identification.

• In-depth understanding of relevant regulations such as NESC, GO 95, IEEE, ASTM, ASCE.

• Experience in designing civil, substation, transmission, and distribution systems.

• Proven track record in troubleshooting techniques for material-related outages.

• Ability to present technical information persuasively to larger groups.

• Experience with wildfire mitigation technologies and solutions.

Preferred Qualifications


• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.

• Advanced degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering with a focus on power systems.

• Professional Engineering License.
