Role Overview:
This position plays a crucial role in the advancement and operation of New Glenn, a versatile heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed for the routine transport of personnel and cargo to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar space, and beyond. The first stage of this vehicle is fully reusable, and it has been engineered from the outset to accommodate human missions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design of fluid component systems, ensuring alignment with cost, performance, and scheduling objectives.
- Develop and route intricate fluid subsystems, including pressurization, pneumatics, and propellant management.
- Oversee the creation and execution of development, acceptance, and qualification testing for your designs.
- Collaborate with various teams to ensure seamless integration of systems, swiftly addressing challenges while managing associated risks.
- Demonstrate strong project management capabilities, encompassing supplier relations, scheduling, and production coordination.
- Utilize 3D CAD software (preferably Creo) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools (preferably ANSYS) in your design processes.
- Deliver comprehensive designs adhering to ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards, accompanied by clear and detailed analysis documentation.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in engineering, specifically with complex fluid systems.
- Proven expertise in the design of fluid system components for spacecraft or launch vehicles.
- In-depth knowledge of fluid components, including valves, pressure vessels, and fittings.
- Familiarity with fabrication and integration processes, as well as quality control measures related to piping and machined components.
- Ability to establish trust and maintain professional relationships, fostering an inclusive work environment.
- Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in fast-paced hardware development settings.
- Knowledge of cryogenic systems, particularly LOX and LH2.
- Experience in designing for cost-effective manufacturing.
- Understanding of cryogenic material properties and testing methodologies.
