POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
The Trauma Outcomes Coordinator is essential in enhancing trauma care quality and safety.

This role supports the trauma quality initiative to ensure the provision of optimal and effective services throughout the trauma care continuum, from pre-hospital settings to rehabilitation.

The Trauma Outcomes Coordinator must demonstrate expertise in nursing practices, evidence-based methodologies, trauma center functions, and quality enhancement processes, alongside teaching principles.

In collaboration with Trauma Services personnel, this position is accountable for driving continuous advancements in the care of injured patients from their admission to discharge and follow-up.

Responsibilities include maintaining comprehensive records of designated trauma performance improvement activities and safeguarding the Trauma Outcomes database. The coordinator will gather and evaluate data to create new or adjust existing performance improvement initiatives.

Customized reports will be generated based on data analysis for distribution, along with recommendations aimed at enhancing trauma care quality and outcomes.

Utilizing state and national benchmarks, the coordinator will assess trauma care standards and may take on the role of facilitator or leader in process improvement initiatives.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited nursing program.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience as a Registered Nurse in an Emergency Department or Critical Care setting, with direct experience in trauma patient care.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas or proof of reciprocity.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Provider certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification, if working with pediatric cases.
  • Completion of the Trauma Outcomes and Performance Improvement Course (TOPIC) within 6 months of employment.
  • Completion of Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) or Pediatric Care After Resuscitation (PCAR) within 12 months of hire.
  • Professional certification (CEN, CCRN, TCRN, or similar) within 1 year of employment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree from an accredited nursing program.
  • Prior experience in Trauma Performance Improvement within an ACS verified trauma center.
  • Instructor certification for the Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC).
  • Instructor certification for Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN).
  • Completion of Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) or Pediatric Care After Resuscitation (PCAR).
  • Training in Injury Severity Scoring.
  • Advanced quality training and certifications (LEAN Six Sigma, Team STEPPS, or similar).

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Texas is mandatory.
