Salesforce Platform Operations Manager

Job Context:

The position entails IT Leadership responsibilities within development initiatives, encompassing the establishment of objectives, engaging with pertinent stakeholders/end users to delineate the scope of work, supervising quality assurance throughout the software development lifecycle, acquiring resources, and coordinating the efforts of developers (both internally and externally through third-party vendors) to deliver applications or modifications that bolster the functionality of the Schools Systems division.

Job Purpose:

The Operations Manager is responsible for formulating system development strategies and solutions that align with the current and future requirements of the organization, leveraging cutting-edge technologies.

This individual will take ownership of the organization's Salesforce platform, crafting a strategic roadmap for future expansion, transitioning to Lightning, implementing Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), and establishing a comprehensive Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process for development teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to outline development objectives.
  • Engage closely with stakeholders and the broader IT team to comprehend system functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Enhance existing applications and architecture as necessary.
  • Secure stakeholder approval for the development roadmap.
  • Implement best-in-class process control.
  • Design an effective CI/CD pipeline and comprehensive SDLC to facilitate system development.
  • Document process controls and milestone achievements.
  • Devise and execute a quality assurance strategy.
  • Establish QA processes to ensure systematic testing of all systems to prevent deviations from specifications.
  • Conduct all necessary tests and track defects until resolved or accepted as manageable risks.
  • Ensure QA processes encompass functional, performance, security, system, and User Acceptance Testing (UAT).
  • Obtain UAT sign-off on system performance.
  • Coordinate development planning activities.
  • Manage code archives, prepare and test installers, draft and distribute release notes, and ensure stakeholders have access to new releases while managing previous versions to avoid confusion.
  • Execute system deployments.
  • Ensure readiness of sites for new releases.
  • Establish issue reporting processes and rollback procedures with minimal downtime.
  • Provide user training and briefings for new releases.
  • Achieve successful rollout of new releases in accordance with pre-agreed timelines.
  • Oversee system handover sign-off.
  • Drive flawless project execution.
  • Supervise SDLC adherence to project plans and development standards.
  • Interface and coordinate tasks with internal and external technical resources to fulfill all requirements.
  • Assist project teams in identifying and mitigating risks to existing business processes or the overall success of the solution.
  • May involve training to ensure the solution is adequately supported and maintained post-implementation.
  • Support the broader development team in resolving technical challenges.
  • Ensure timely achievement of milestones as per project plans.
  • Provide thought leadership and subject matter expertise on Schools Systems development methodologies and deliverables.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and technological advancements relevant to applications developed for Schools Systems.
  • Research and recommend new technical opportunities.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement across all technology areas.
  • Deliver application development status reports, including updates on stability, functionality, and capacity, along with recommendations for necessary system modifications.
  • Offer subject matter updates on trends and technological developments related to tools, languages, and frameworks.
  • Manage development budgets effectively and efficiently.
  • Monitor development budgets closely, promptly outlining deviations to cost center owners.
  • Ensure budget compliance.
Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 10 years of experience navigating the design, development, and release cycle, delivering applications to end users.
  • 7+ years of experience managing a team focused on Salesforce implementation and configuration.
  • Proven ability to rapidly learn new applications, processes, and procedures.
  • Adept at identifying root causes of issues and swiftly determining effective solutions.
  • Extensive troubleshooting skills across a variety of technology-related systems.
  • Capable of multitasking and highly adaptable.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering software applications as an individual contributor, team leader, and/or development manager.
  • Experience with Scrum methodology and Agile practices.
  • Exceptional analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience collaborating with software vendors.
  • Prior experience in the education sector is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Strong logical and analytical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent technical support documentation skills.
Interpersonal Skills:

  • Ability to balance best practices with practical solutions.
  • Ability to communicate ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute tasks effectively in high-pressure environments.
