Position Overview

The Senior Mechanical Engineer within the Project Engineering division is tasked with the innovative design of pneumatic, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical products tailored for diverse Aerospace clients and platforms. This includes, but is not limited to, reusable commercial launch vehicles, deep space exploration missions, military aircraft, and hypersonic missile systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Evaluate and ensure adherence to customer component specifications and related sub-level requirements.
  • Collaborate with various disciplines beyond engineering as necessary.
  • Document findings and communicate with the Contracts Administrator and Program Manager for customer transmission when applicable.
  • Oversee the design and performance of product components or major assemblies in alignment with customer specifications, including:
  • Designing electronic mechanical packaging for high-reliability environments.
  • Conducting design analyses, including control systems, component stress, thermal assessments, and tolerance evaluations.
  • Facilitating the creation of preliminary bills of materials within the business system and ensuring their accuracy.
  • Establishing development testing requirements and instructions, along with releasing drawings for development hardware and supporting test equipment.
  • Providing comprehensive requirement outlines to Documentation Control for the generation of:
  • Test Procedures (DVT, ATP, QTP)
  • Verification Matrices to specifications
  • Materials lists
  • Analysis Reports
  • Maintaining ongoing oversight of customer-driven changes, providing written notifications to relevant personnel, including program impact assessments.
  • Offering engineering support (analysis/design/specifications) to other departments, subcontractors, and suppliers involved in the program.
  • Delivering technical guidance and prioritization to designers and drafters.
  • Ensuring the accuracy of all project-related drawings and documents, excluding purely drafting technique issues.
  • Managing Non-Conformance Report (NCR) activities and exercising Material Review Board (MRB) authority to address discrepant hardware.
  • Preparing and organizing Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR) technical items and schedules.
  • Assisting the Engineering Manager/Director or Program Manager in resource allocation and project prioritization.
  • Meeting drawing release deadlines.
  • Coordinating technical inputs and approvals of Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) items with Documentation Control in accordance with their timelines.
  • Providing coordination, test instructions, and drawings for development testing to Engineering Lab technicians consistent with program schedules.
  • Communicating technical and scheduling challenges to the Engineering Manager/Director, Contracts Administrator, and Program Manager promptly.
  • Performing or coordinating all necessary analyses, both design-level and customer-required.
  • Leading internal design reviews and managing subsequent changes to drawings.
  • Timely incorporation of customer and other disciplines' feedback into drawings.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
  • 3-10 years of relevant experience in a high-tech, electro-mechanical environment within the Aerospace and Military sectors, recognized as a subject matter expert in related products and technologies.
  • Familiarity with government procurement procedures, standards, and quality requirements.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction across all organizational levels and with external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly MS Office, with demonstrated experience in relevant systems and programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of fluid controls, control systems, structural or thermal analysis, and associated software.
  • Significant experience in best practices for the development, production, and maintenance of these products, systems, or software code.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Work Environment

  • This role involves exposure to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including fluids, fumes, airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise, and vibration.
  • The position requires interaction in both a professional office setting and a manufacturing/machine shop environment, utilizing standard office equipment and appropriate safety gear.
  • Local and non-local travel may be required for this position.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to see, talk, and hear.
  • Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands for handling or feeling.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, and move about the facility.
  • May be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 pounds.
