Lead Mechanical Engineer

Position Overview
The Senior Mechanical Engineer within the Project Engineering division is tasked with the innovative design of pneumatic, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical systems tailored for a diverse range of Aerospace clients and platforms. This includes, but is not limited to, reusable commercial launch vehicles, deep space exploration missions, military aircraft, and hypersonic technologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and ensure adherence to customer component specifications and related standards.
- Collaborate with various engineering disciplines and other departments as necessary.
- Document findings and share with relevant stakeholders for customer communication when appropriate.
- Oversee the design and performance of product components or major assemblies in alignment with customer specifications, including:
- Designing electronic mechanical packaging suitable for high-reliability applications.
- Conducting design analyses, including control systems, component stress evaluations, and thermal assessments.
- Facilitating the development of preliminary bills of materials and verifying their accuracy.
- Establishing testing requirements and instructions for development hardware and associated testing equipment.
- Providing comprehensive outlines for documentation control to generate:
- Test Procedures (DVT, ATP, QTP)
- Verification Matrices aligned with specifications
- Materials lists
- Analysis Reports
- Maintain vigilance regarding customer-driven changes, providing written updates to relevant personnel, including program impact assessments.
- Offer engineering support across departments and subcontractors involved in the program.
- Guide and prioritize tasks for design and drafting teams.
- Ensure the precision of all project-related drawings and documents, excluding drafting technique issues.
- Manage Non-Conformance Report (NCR) activities and have authority for dispositioning non-compliant hardware.
- Prepare and manage technical schedules for Preliminary Design Reviews (PDR) and Critical Design Reviews (CDR).
- Assist management in resource allocation and project prioritization.
- Adhere to drawing release timelines.
- Coordinate technical inputs and approvals for Controlled Data Requirements List (CDRL) items.
- Provide necessary test instructions and drawings for development testing in accordance with project timelines.
- Communicate any technical or scheduling challenges to management promptly.
- Conduct and coordinate all required analyses, both design-related and customer-specified.
- Lead internal design reviews and manage subsequent revisions.
- Incorporate feedback from customers and other disciplines into project documentation efficiently.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering.
- 3-10 years of relevant experience in a high-tech, electro-mechanical environment, particularly within the Aerospace and Military sectors.
- Familiarity with government procurement processes, standards, and quality requirements.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for effective interaction across all organizational levels and with external partners.
- Proficient in computer applications, particularly MS Office, with demonstrated experience in relevant systems and tools.
- In-depth knowledge of fluid control systems, structural or thermal analysis, and related software.
- Significant experience in best practices for the development, production, and maintenance of these systems.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.

- Participate actively in team meetings and improvement initiatives, providing constructive feedback and recommendations.
- Demonstrate a commitment to company values consistently.
- Keep management informed of project activities and any significant issues.
- Assume responsibility for additional duties as assigned.
- Maintain a clean and secure work area.
- Complete special projects and miscellaneous assignments as required.
Work Environment
- Work involves exposure to a manufacturing environment, including fluids, fumes, moving mechanical parts, and noise.
- This role requires interaction in both an office and manufacturing setting, utilizing standard office equipment and safety gear as necessary.
- Some travel may be required for this position.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to see, talk, and hear.
- Frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands for handling.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the facility.
- May need to lift and/or move items weighing up to 20 pounds.
