About the Role

The Senior Tungsten Engineer will serve as the global investment manager for the organization, overseeing the procurement and management of tungsten investments. This role requires strong leadership and technical expertise to ensure the successful implementation of tungsten-related projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • New Set-up Design and Implementation

The Senior Tungsten Engineer will be responsible for designing and implementing new set-ups, including assembly and part drawings, machining and fabrication instructions.

Existing Set-up Support and Maintenance

The role will also involve supporting and maintaining existing set-ups, including ordering, refurbishing, and modifying existing tungsten inventory.

Vendor Management and Negotiation

The Senior Tungsten Engineer will partner with the commodity manager to negotiate with tool fabricating vendors and suppliers, quotes, vendor approval, and vendor interface during fabrication.

Physical Inspection and Quality Control

The role will involve physical inspection of completed set-ups to ensure quality and compliance with company standards.

Root Cause Investigations and Corrective Actions

The Senior Tungsten Engineer will be responsible for conducting root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions as needed on tungsten-related furnace failures.

Investment Budget Management

The role will involve managing the yearly investment budget for all tungsten investments and ensuring that capital and expense budgets are maintained.

Quality Management and Documentation

The Senior Tungsten Engineer will be responsible for integrating critical documents into the quality management system and creating/updating standard operating procedures for all Tungsten processes.

Engineering Test Requests and Management of Change

The role will involve participating in new tool design reviews, managing all engineering test requests, and managing the management of change process, both internally and externally.

Tungsten Set-up Management

The Senior Tungsten Engineer will be responsible for managing new Tungsten set-ups from cradle to grave.

RFQ Creation and Vendor Management

The role will involve creating RFQs, sending them to vendors for tooling and capital quotes, analyzing quotes, and making recommendations to Purchasing.

Contingency Planning and Validation

The Senior Tungsten Engineer will be responsible for developing contingency plans for single-source operations and materials and managing validation plans for associated qualifications/changes with tungsten and associated changes.

Quality Requirements and Technical Support

The role will involve communicating quality requirements to meet expectations for furnace set-ups and providing technical support to external shops and manufacturing teams to troubleshoot and ensure tooling and capital meets company standards.

Scale-up and Furnace Trials

The Senior Tungsten Engineer will be responsible for managing scale-up to higher volume manufacturing in the development project for internal machining and overseeing furnace trials and testing relative to tungsten modifications to ensure accuracy of the test and results.

Requirements
  • Education

A Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field is required.

Experience

A minimum of 10 years of engineering experience in a manufacturing work environment is required.

Leadership and Technical Expertise

Strong leadership and motivation skills within all layers of the business are required, as well as technical expertise in tungsten and manufacturing processes.
