Position Summary

The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for operating imaging equipment to capture diagnostic images of the human body as instructed by the Emergency Room Physician, adhering to established protocols set by the Radiologist. This role requires expertise in patient positioning and equipment setup to ensure optimal imaging results as requested by the physician. The technologist will implement radiation safety measures in accordance with the ALARA principle, utilizing beam restriction devices and patient shielding techniques to safeguard both patients and staff.

In addition, the technologist will operate CT SCAN machinery to generate Computed Tomography (CT) images for diagnostic evaluations, following the directives of the Emergency Room Physician and Radiologist protocols. Responsibilities include administering and obtaining consent for both intravenous and oral contrast, while being vigilant about potential reactions and side effects. The Technologist will also ensure accurate documentation in the patient's medical records, prioritizing patient safety and satisfaction while delivering high-quality diagnostic imaging.

Key Responsibilities

  • Stay informed about departmental and operational policies.
  • Assist in maintaining imaging equipment, including cleaning and quality assurance tasks.
  • Communicate the benefits and risks of procedures to patients.
  • Prepare patients for examinations, including contrast administration and lab checks.
  • Facilitate departmental operations by completing necessary documentation related to exams.
  • Implement safety protocols to minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of diagnostic radiology and CT procedures.
  • Demonstrate understanding of anatomy and physiology relevant to radiology practices.
  • Possess basic troubleshooting skills for radiology and CT equipment.
  • Utilize proper body mechanics when moving patients and equipment.
  • Recognize personal limitations and seek assistance when necessary.
  • Ensure effective communication regarding departmental issues.
  • Provide safe transport for patients within the facility.
  • Participate in quality control and compliance activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
  • Engage in performance improvement initiatives as required.
  • Adhere to safety and infection control regulations.
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with patients and staff.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

To excel in this role, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Graduate from an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in radiology/imaging and CT.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions and correspondence.
  • Proficient in written communication.
  • Capable of presenting information effectively in various settings.
  • Basic mathematical skills for calculations and data interpretation.
  • Ability to solve practical problems in a dynamic environment.

Certifications

• Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
• Current state licensure
• Current BCLS Certification

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to stand, sit, and use hands for various tasks. The employee must be able to lift and move patients and equipment as necessary, with specific vision abilities required for close work.
